Getting Local with the USA Women’s Bobsled Team

      February 19, 2014 By CENTURY 21

CONTRIBUTED POST BY: Brittany Boyce, Homes.com

The Olympics are in full swing, and to celebrate the Winter Games in Sochi, CENTURY 21® Real Estate, a proud sponsor of  USA’s Bobsled team, and Homes.com, a leading online real estate destination, wanted to bring you ‘up to speed’ on the U.S. women’s bobsled team and take a look at the real estate market in each of their hometowns. Using data from Homes.com’s Local Market Index and Rebound Reports, we’ll see just how their cities are faring by taking a look at how much they have rebounded back from peak market values.

      Katie Eberling

Formerly a volleyball player in college, Katie Eberling from Palos Hills, Ill. was approached by Olympic medalist and teammate Elana Meyers about trying bobsledding in 2010. While the suburbs of Chicago are not necessarily known for bobsledding, the weather certainly is cold and snowy enough to prepare an athlete for the conditions they might face on the course! If you’re into winter weather and would like to live near the big city of Chicago, the Pallos Hills area is ideal – it has rebounded 21.13%, a 10.27% YOY increase in home values.

      Aja Evans

Olympic bobsled brakeman Aja Evans, of Chicago, Ill., is no stranger to athleticism – her brother and cousin are professional athletes and her uncle was a former coach for the Cubs. Not only is Chicago a fantastic location if you’re interested in pro sports teams, but it’s a hub of business, education, and lifestyle activities. The city’s real estate market has rebounded 26.37% – a 9.56% YOY increase.

      Jazmine Fenlator

Wayne, N.J. native Jazmine Fenlator has been involved with the sport of bobsled since 2007, but before that, she was a track star at Rider University. Her track coach encouraged her to try bobsled, and the rest is history! Living in Wayne is ideal if you like the closeness of the suburbs, but the excitement of the city – after all, NYC is a mere 20 miles away. The good news for those interested in this location: the real estate market has rebounded 22.85%, a 6.30% YOY increase.

      Jamie Greubel

Known as one of the nation’s most promising women’s pilots, Jamie Greubel joined the U.S. bobsled team in the 2007-2008 season. Like several other bobsled teammates, Newtown, Pa. native Jamie formerly ran track in college and was encouraged by fellow runners to transition to the ice. Surrounded by parks and located just west of Philadelphia, Newtown provides the best of both worlds with its recreational and cultural opportunities. The real estate market has rebounded 44.60% – a 5.10% YOY increase.

      Lolo Jones

Already a track and field sensation, Lolo Jones, of Des Moines, Iowa, was recruited to the bobsled team after the 2012 Olympic Games in London. While growing up in Des Moines might not have exactly prepared Lolo for the ice, her prior Olympic experience is sure to have an influence on her competitive nature! If you’re interested in living amongst a certain hard-working Olympic athlete, consider Des Moines. The city’s real estate market has rebounded a whopping 118.14%, a 5.48% YOY increase.

      Elana Meyers

Elana Meyers from Douglasville, Ga., a city 20 miles west of Atlanta, began the sport of bobsled in 2007. Along the way, she has gained superstar status in bobsled while also playing professional softball. Growing up near Atlanta provides plenty of opportunities to excel in sports – from amateur to professional, this area has it all! Channel your inner Olympic athlete and consider Douglasville – the real estate market has rebounded 48.19%, a YOY increase of 13.64%.

      Lauryn Williams

While Miami, Fla. isn’t the first place you think of when it comes to bobsledding, Lauryn Williams didn’t let her warm and sunny hometown prevent her from excelling in the sport. She attended her first Olympic Games in 2004 as a track and field athlete, and transitioned over to the bobsled team in 2013 to train for Sochi. Lauryn may be on to something – living in Miami does have its advantages, especially if you are trying to escape the frigid winter temperatures! If warmer weather sounds ideal, consider a move to the South – the real estate market in Miami has rebounded 22.19%, a 12.36% YOY increase.

Are you feeling inspired to consider a move to one of these athletes’ hometowns? USA Bobsled/Skeleton: Training & Preparation

      February 18, 2014 By Molly

The CENTURY 21® System is proud to sponsor the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams. Yesterday the USA Men’s Bobsled team took the bronze medal in the two man event. This win broke a 60+ year span where the USA team did not medal in this specific event. Congratulations!

Today, team member Nick Cunningham, who rides in the CENTURY 21 sled, talks to us about what it takes to train and prepare for this global stage.

He explains, “We do everything from heavy squats, to heavy dead lifts, to power cleans- all kinds of heavy weight room stuff, all explosive and powerful.”

In this video, Nick details what each person in the sled must do to prepare mentally and physical to have the best run down the track:

      USA Bobsled/Skeleton: Meet Dallas Robinson

      February 7, 2014 By Molly

Today we continue introducing you to the members of the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams. The CENTURY 21® System is proud to sponsor both teams.

Meet Dallas Robinson, who hails from Georgetown, KY. Dallas started his athletic career in track and field. He was then recruited to play for the USA Rugby team.

After retiring from rugby, Dallas competed in a local track meet, shattering the state record in the 100 meter dash. That success automatically qualified him for the Olympic trials.

On his first trip to Park City, UT for Bobsled try outs, Dallas wound up making the four man Bobsled team. He’s been pushing for pilot Nick Cunningham for the last three years.

Nick and Dallas now also compete in the two man Bobsled event.

Hear more from Dallas in this video:

      USA Bobsled/Skeleton: Sledding 101

      February 6, 2014 By Molly

The CENTURY 21® System is proud to sponsor the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams. Today we hear from Nick Cunningham, who rides in the CENTURY 21 sled about the basics of a great run.

Nick explains, “We have a start cadence so we know when to hit the sled.” He continues, “You can’t win a race at the start line, but you can definitely lose with a bad start.”

So how do they make sure they get off on the right foot?

They have a very specific order. Nick describes, “The pilot (that’s me), jumps in first. The next teammate jumps in two steps after, the third man right after him, then finally, the break man. The break man is the last to jump in, but the first to actually sit down.”

Watch the team practice their perfect start:

      USA Bobsled/Skeleton: Meet Curt Tomasevicz

      February 5, 2014 By Molly

The CENTURY 21® System is proud to sponsor the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams. Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobsled team member Curt Tomasevicz.

Curt grew up in Shelby, NB and went on to play college football for the University of Nebraska. He’s become a hometown hero. The town of Shelby put up a billboard in the center of town with his face on it!

In 2006, Curt competed for the gold for the first time. This year will mark this third time at the games.

When asked about the importance of winning in Sochi, Curt said, “The obvious goal is to win another gold medal. Having one gold medal kind of puts things in perspective and gives you the right mind set and the approach to have, but why you get that gold medal might be a bit different. I have a couple teammates right now that don’t have a medal. Most of my motivation is to get them that gold because they deserve to be on that podium as well.”

Hear more from Curt in this video:

Show your support for the team as they had toward that podium by following “CENTURY 21” on Facebook and Twitter.

      USA Bobsled/Skeleton: Meet Emily Azevedo

      February 4, 2014 By Molly

CENTURY 21® is proud to sponsor the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams. Today we’d like you to meet another member of the Women’s Bobsled Team, Emily Azevedo.

Emily hails from Chico, CA. It was her sister who encouraged her to pursue Bobsled. In fact, she handed her a five dollar bill and offered to be her very first sponsor if she could be brave and try out.

Emily’s parents are also a driving force behind her commitment to the sport. She says, “My parents are my biggest inspiration. My mother is a breast cancer survivor and my father has Type 1 Diabetes. Seeing how tough they are makes me want to push forward.”

When people get discouraged, Emily pumps them up and shouts, “I’m living proof that you can do whatever you want in life. I’m a California girl who bobsleds!”

Watch this video to hear more from Emily:

Cheer for Emily and the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams by following live updates from CENTURY 21 on Facebook and Twitter.

      USA Bobsled/Skeleton: Meet Johnny Quinn

      February 3, 2014 By Molly

This week we are continuing to introduce you to the members of the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams who will be competing in Sochi, Russia. CENTURY 21® is proud to sponsor both teams.

Today, meet Johnny Quinn of McKinney, TX. Before entering the sport of bobsled, Johnny was a football player. He was on the roster of the Buffalo Bills, the Green Bay Packers and played in the Canadian Football League.

His first time on the ice in a bobsled was in the four man event at the 2010 Vancouver games. Talk about pressure!

Adding to the challenges, Johnny suffers from motion sickness. He confessed to us that he rides down the track with his eyes closed. Thankfully he’s a break man, not the driver!

Watch this video to get to know more about Johnny:

Want to support Johnny and the team on their quest for the gold? Be sure you’re following CENTURY 21 on Facebook and Twitter.

      USA Bobsled/Skeleton: Meet Aja Evans

January 30, 2014 By Molly Leave a Comment

This week we’re introducing you to the members of the USA Bobsled and Skeletons Teams, which the CENTURY 21(R) brand is proud to sponsor.

Aja (pronounced Asia) Evans, a member of the Women’s Bobsled Team, hails from Chicago, IL where she excelled in track and field. In fact, Aja was a five time All American in the shot put event.

You could definitely say the athletic gene runs in Aja’s family. Her mother was a track and field star, her father was the first African American to win a national championship in the breast stroke for men’s swimming, and her brother Fred Evans is a defensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings NFL team.

Watch this video to hear from Aja what it takes to train for the big race:

To support Aja and the rest of the team’s journey to Sochi, be sure you’re following CENTURY 21 on Facebook and Twitter.

      January 29, 2014 By Molly

CENTURY 21 is the proud sponsor of the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams. Over the next week and a half leading up to the opening ceremonies on Friday February 7th, we’ll be introducing you to the members of the team.

Today we’d like you to meet John Daly.

John grew up in Smithtown, NY on Long Island. Believe it or not, before getting into Skeleton, he was a BMX rider!

His career on the ice actually began with luge, but after his first trip to Lake Placid, he switched to Skeleton.

Watch this video to get to know John and hear his best piece of advice for success in the sport:

CENTURY 21 Real Estate Announces USA Bobsled Team Sponsorship

September 11, 2013 By Anna Sikora

Century 21 Real Estate LLC today announced that it is the official real estate company of the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Federation (USBSF). The CENTURY 21 – USBSF sponsorship includes a dedicated sled wrapped in black and gold featuring the brand’s iconic logo. The sled made its debut at the CENTURY 21 Senior Leadership Conference in Miami earlier today.

“Our sponsorship of the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Team is another example of our position as the ‘Smarter. Bolder. Faster.’ real estate team in the industry,” said Bev Thorne, Chief Marketing Officer, Century 21 Real Estate LLC. “Whether it’s the Super Bowl, the Bobsled team, U.S. Soccer, or the Indy 500, we are committed to showcasing the capabilities of our sales professionals in front of the largest audiences on a global scale, and in association with world-class events.”

The CENTURY 21 bobsled will be seen during the entire 2013-2014 World Cup season. The tour includes stops in Calgary, Canada; Park City, Utah; Lake Placid, N.Y.; Winterberg, Germany; St. Moritz, Switzerland; Igls, Austria; and Koenigssee, Germany.

“We have an ambitious growth plan and this initiative will help us as we continue to build our presence in the United States and around the globe,” said Rick Davidson, president and CEO, Century 21 Real Estate LLC. “Our brokers and agents will benefit from the visibility and credibility a campaign like this will generate from real estate consumers and fans of the Games.”

“We couldn’t be more excited about partnering with CENTURY 21 for the Olympic season,” said Darrin Steele, USBSF CEO. “They are industry leaders who know what it takes to be the best, and we are proud to team with them.”

In addition to the dedicated bobsled, the CENTURY 21 logo will receive placement on all national team sleds, team jackets and speed suits. CENTURY 21 will be recognized as an “Official Sponsor” on the USBSF’s official website and in all team press releases and newsletters. Plus, CENTURY 21 is including a smaller logo on the team’s bobsleds for Easter Seals, the CENTURY 21 System’s philanthropic partner.

“We’re continually amazed by and grateful for the CENTURY 21 System’s generous support of our organization,” said James E. Williams, Jr., president and CEO, Easter Seals. “Adding our logo to the Bobsled is yet another way CENTURY 21 shows that they are Easter Seals Champions.”
